Chairman: Mar Jacob Manathodath

Mar Jacob Manathodath was ordained as a priest on 4th November 1972. After ordination he has his Doctorate in Theology from the Gregorian University, Rome. After ordination, Fr. Jacob was first appointed Assistant Vicar of St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica, Ernakulam and then Private Secretary to the late Mar Joseph Cardinal Parecattil.

He served the Archdiocese of Ernakulam in various capacities, as Archdiocesan Secretary, Secretary to Mar Antony Cardinal Padiyara, Promoter of Justice and Defender of Bond at the Archdiocesan Tribunal, Chancellor, Parish Priest at Elamakara and Chempu, Eparchial Consultor, Executive Secretary of 'Save A Family Plan (India) and the Editor of "Ernakulam Missam".

In 1990 he was appointed Professor at St. Joseph's Pontifical Seminary, Aluva. On 6th September 1992 Mar Jacob Manathodath was nominated titular bishop of Abydus and bishop auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam. He was ordained bishop on 28th November 1992 and appointed Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Ernakulam. His Holiness Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Palghat on 11th November 1996. He took canonical possession of the Eparchy on February 1st, 1997.

Vice Chairman: Most. Rev. Dr. Thomas Aquinas M.A ., D.CL,.

Ordained in 1980 at Pillaithopu, Kottar by Most Rev Dr. Anthonymuthu. Ecclesiastical Studies in Philosophy & Theology at Sacred Heart Seminary, Poonamallee. Served as Assistant Parish Priest and Parish Priest of various parishes. Also served as Procurator of Diocese and Rector of Minor Seminary, Pathiavaram. Worked as Professor at Sacred Heart Seminary, Poonamallee. Higher studies at Leuven University, Belgium (1988 - 1993) Doctorate in Canon Law. Served as Vicar General & Parish Priest of Cathedral,Vellore (1997-1999). Episcopal Announcement in 10-07-2002 and Episcopal Consecration in 28-08-2002.

At Present, he is the Bishop of Coimbatore diocese and also heads various organizational responsibilities viz., President of the Governing Body of Coimbatore Diocese Society, Chairman of the Board of Bishops, Good Shepherd Seminary, Coimbatore, President of Coimbatore Multipurpose Religious Service Society, President of all Diocesan Commissions and President of Diocesan Institutions.

Rev. Fr. Paul Achandi, cmi

Rev. Fr. Paul Achandi, CMI is the Provincial of Devamatha Province, Trichur. He was ordained on 29/12/1992. An academic scholar, a business management specialist and studied philosophy and Theology. Indeed he is busy and active in serving people and directing his people to the way for excellence. He has decorated many positions as Director, Christ College Institute of Management, Bangalore, Director, CMI Devamatha School, Trichur, Vicar Provincial, CMI Devamatha Province, Trichur and the Director of Amala Cancer Hospital and Research Center, Trichur. Many research publications in National and International Management Journals are in his credit.

Rev. Sr. Pushpa CMC

Served in many capacities as Aspirant Mistress, Postulants Mistress, Novice Mistress, Junior Mistress, Councilor, Assistant Provincial at different institutions and organisations. At present she is the Provincial Superior of CMC Palakkad Province.

Rev. Fr. Walter Thelapilly, CMI is the Director of Amala Cancer Hospital, Trichur.

Rev. Sr. Vincentia SABS is serving as Provincial Superior. She was a High School Teacher for 25 years and also was the Hospital Warden for 3 years. She was also served as the Headmistress and Principal of Higher Secondary Schools for 15 years.

Ordained on 22/05/1977. He took his Doctorate in Moral Theology from Rome. He held various positions as Assistant Parish Priest of St. Aloysius Church, Dharapuram and St. Sebastian's Church, Palakkad, Parish Priest of Christ the King Church, Katoor, Vice-Rector, St. Joseph Minor Seminary and Professor of Moral Theology, Good Shepherd Major Seminary, Coimbatore, Vicar-Forane – Coimbatore Vicariate and Diocesan Procurator of Coimbatore. Holding the position of Chacellor of Coimbatore Diocese he is the Parish Priest, St. Michael's Cathedral Church, Coimbatore. He is a devoted person who is serving people for the past man years.

Fr. Julius Arakal, cmi

Fr. Julius Arakal's name has become synonymous with Paalana Institute of Medical Sciences. Thanks to his leadership qualities, organizing capacity, concern for fellow human beings and an unassuming nature. Naturally, he is at the helm of all our activities in Paalana. Fr. Julius has been the administrator since 2001, the year of launching our project. He took charge as Director in 2004 and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

Paalana signifies care, treatment and concern. Fr. Julius has left no stone unturned in realizing the potential of this concept. His self-effacing nature, dynamism and a pleasant demeanor have gone a long way to help him achieve this goal. He believes in T.E.A.M.(Together Everybody Achieves More). It goes without saying that he has put all his trust in Him, the lord, who is the eternal source of inspiration. Fr. Julius shares a unique rapport with his TEAM Paalana. His regular interaction with the TEAM Paalana has developed the institution as a patient-centric organization. As a result, Paalana is set on a steady path of growth and service. It has become a household name in Palakkad's map of medical care.

Fr. Julius maintains excellent relations with all prominent persons at the local, district and state levels irrespective of their different political hues. His extremely likable personality has endeared him to all resulting in a quick and easy access to the powers that be. Undoubtedly, it has been an 'Easy Cake Walk' for Paalana through all hurdles and formalities. Thanks to his graceful and courteous ways. His sincere involvement in the day-to-day affairs of the hospital and his transparent ways has always stood him in good stead.

Fr. Julius, a young graduate in English literature has specialized in Management, Administration, Medical Law & Ethics and Social Work is always guided by a clear vision. He is widely traveled including Europe and Middle East. This exposure has much benefited Paalana by the introduction of modern advanced technologies in Medical Science.

Fr. Julius has done Health Leadership Programmes at Christian Medical College, Vellore and at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He also conducts leadership classes at regular intervals which were instrumental in carving out youths with leadership qualities. Fr. Julius is the National Vice-President of Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI). He is deeply committed to the cause of developing Paalana as a state-of-the-art hospital.

Joint Directors

Fr. Martin Thattil

Fr. Martin Thattil is our Joint Director who is engaged in the day-to-day affairs of this Institution round the clock. He had his detailed studies in Philosophy and Theology from St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor, Kottayam, Kerala. He has ordained by His Excellency Mar Jacob Manathodath, Bishop of Palghat on 3rd January 2002. He was the Asst. Vicar of St. Thomas Forane Church, Kanjirapuzha and was the Vicar of St. Mary's Church, Vimalagiri and Little Flower Church, Alathur. Fr. Martin Thattil, who is a gifted artist as a musician and an instrument player.

He is an energetic, efficient, young organizer, who has proved his capacities in various aspects of our institutional management. He is the Parish Priest of Divine Providence Church, Chandra Nagar, Palakkad. He holds key positions in many social activities and made valuable contributions and is the Health Director of Palakkad Diocese, Moral instructor for Special Jail, Palakkad, Zonal Director of Jesus Fraternity, which serves the people with good thoughts and deeds. He also holds the position of the Director of 'Sarathi', Palakkad, yet another service organization. His dedicated service as the joint Director since the past five years had given Paalana Institute of Medical Sciences a lot to reach the stage of what we are today.

Our Joint Director, Fr. Lorance L., belongs to Diocese of Coimbatore.  He did his Bachelor's degree in Commerce and did his Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Management.  He served as a Computer Instructor at Maegabyte Computer Academy, Palakkad (1993-1994) and also as an Accountant cum Programmer in a private firm (1995-1997).  His Spiritual Education was from St. Peter's Pontifical Institute, Bangalore and studied Philosophy and Theological Sciences (1998-2005).  He was ordained by His Grace Pedro Lopes Quintana, Papal Nuncio to India, on the 8th of May 2005.    He was the Vice Rector, St. Joseph's Minor Seminary, Coimbatore during 2005-2006 and was the Assistant Parish Priest of St. Sebastian's Church, Palakkad during 2006-2007.  Apart from the responsiblity as the Joint Director of Paalana, engaged in day-to-day affairs of the Institution round the clock, he is the Parish Priest of St. Antony's Church, Ambattupalayam, Chittur from the year 2007. 

Nursing Superintendent

Completed GNM in 1996 from Saint Philomina's School of Nursing. Done Pc B.Sc. in 2000–2001 from K. G. College of Nursing. Worked for 6 years in Vimal Jyothi Hospital, Coimbatore. Joined Paalana Institute of Medical Sciences in 2007.

Medical Superintendent

Dr. M.V. Joseph Joy, MD, DM

Our Medical Superintendent, Dr. M.V. Joseph Joy, MD, DM (Cardiology) is in association with Paalana Institute of Medical Sciences from the year 2008. He did his MBBS from Stanley Medical College in the year 1974, and took his Post Graduation, MD, from JIPMER in the year 1979. He did his super specialization, DM (Cardiology), from Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Thiruvananthapuram, an Institution of National Interest.

He served SCTIMST and was the Associate Professor in cardiology for seven years (1985–1992). He is a person with vast experience in different capacities, served in Trichur Heart Hospital and has held the position of Consultant Specialist in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology, Royal Hospital, Ministry of Health, Sultanate of Oman for seven years (1992–1997). Dr. M. V. Joseph Joy served as Consultant Cardiologist, Al Hayat Cardiac Clinic, Sultanate of Oman. He has conducted Research on Congenital Heart Disease Pathology Studies at Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST).

Dr. M. V. Joseph Joy has 25 research papers, 12 published in International Journals and 13 in National Journals to his credit.

Social Department

Fr. Thomas A. Achandy, cmi

Fr. Thomas A. Achandy cmi is our Director for Social Services. A scholar in Philosophy and Theology, ordained by His Excellency Mar Joseph Kundukulam in 1975. He took his post graduation, M.Sc. Before his retirement in 1996, he held many important Teaching and Preaching positions in various capacities.

He is the superior of CMI Bhavan at Paalana and serves as the Principal, ATTC and BACT courses at Paalana Institute of Medical Sciences. Being a person who has an inborn love and passion towards nature, he went deep into the subject and did research and instrumental in finding a new organism "Parasenocitis Achandii." He associated in translation of Hortus Malabaricus, a Latin Book which details about Medicinal Plants of Kerala to English and Malayalam which has 12 volumes. The beautiful garden at Paalana speaks his commitment for beautiful, healthy, natural environment.
