The Department of Pulmonary Medicine was begun functioning in the year 2008 under the guidance of Dr. Sunitha Sunil. The department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with illnesses that affect the lungs, breathing and sleep.
The diseases managed in the department include; Chronic Obstructive Lung Diseases, Bronchial Asthma, Pulmonary Tuberculosis, Pneumonia and other respiratory infections, Lung Cancer, Interstitial Lung Diseases, Pulmonary Hypertension, Sleep Disorders, acute and chronic respiratory failure.
Services offered through the Pulmonary Medicine department include:
- Outpatient clinics for evaluation and treatment of various lung conditions.
- Hospital inpatient services for evaluation and treatment of various lung conditions.
- Intensive care services for management and treatment of the critically ill including both non-invasive and invasive ventilatory support.
- Sleep disorders evaluation and treatment.
- Bronchoscopic diagnosis and treatment.
- Pulmonary Function Testing.
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
Special emphasis is laid on pulmonary education and rehabilitation as this decreases complications of COPD and increases patient well being. Emphasis is laid on helping patients to stop smoking to achieve disease free state.
The out patient services are offered to patients on all days except Sundays from 9:30 a.m to 1:00p.m. Regular free medical camps are held to help the needy patients.
